Character List:

Dellie: The main character of the novel. A young girl of 14 who feels guilty for her brother’s death.

Corey: The five year old boy who Dellie tries to save in the novel. He has a neglectful mother who does not feed him and hurts him.

Louis:  Dellie’s little brother who passed away when a car hit him. He was about six years in age when he passed.

Kayla: Dellie’s best friend from the apartment complex. She was once rich but when her mother lost her job, she had to move to Dellie’s neighborhood.

Diana and Alejandro: Dellie’s mother and father. Her mother is very grief stricken with the loss of her son. She expresses a lot of moments of depression and mourning all up until she meets Corey. Dellie’s father is a bit more relaxed and easy going although he still feels the loss of his son as well.

Michael: Dellie’s love interest at school who is good in math and tutors Dellie.

Shayna: A classmate of Dellie’s who is mean and says hurtful things to Dellie.

Sophia: A classmate of Dellie’s who is mean to her and reminders her that her brother is dead. (20)

Rihanna: A classmate of Dellie’s who is not very nice and makes fun of her in math class. (27)

Mr. Lang: Dellie’s homeroom teacher.

Alexa Rodriguez: A classmate of Dellie’s. She also likes Michael and tries to get him to like her instead of

Dellie through being his partner in tutoring math for other students. (24)

Bryan: A classmate of Dellie’s who is also Kayla’s love interest. He gets Dellie in trouble by setting her up to look like she was trying to steal items at a convenience store and starts to become a bad influence on Kayla.

Mr. Dumbrewski: He becomes Dellie’s new math teacher, replacing Mrs. Robertson. (28)

Miss Etta and Miss Liz: Two women who live in the apartment complex who are best friends and are friendly with Dellie. (36)

Ms. Warren: Kayla’s mother. (40)

Connie Boy: Louis’ stuffed bear that Dellie still has.

Mrs. Lawrence: A neighbor of Dellie’s who also feeds Corey.

Mr. Millson: An older resident of the apartment complex where Dellie lives. He used to live next to Dellie and have her read the paper to him to distract her from thinking of her brother after he passed. (51-52)

Miss Shirley: Dellie’s new neighbor who replaced Mr. Millson. She is very eccentric and full of a unique energy. From Jamaica and has a strong accent. (52)
